At Perfect Fit Window Fashions serving Estero, one of the biggest complaints we hear from people regarding their current bedroom window treatment is that it lets in too much light and they can’t get a good night’s sleep. If you’re having that problem, you should speak with one of our consultants right away—the right window treatment can mean the difference between being tired and cranky and getting the rest your body needs.
Fabrics and Options
Controlling light depends on the fabric and color you select, light gaps, seams, and rout holes. Keep in mind that window shades and blinds cannot completely eliminate incoming light as there are inherently slight light gaps. You can choose from options that block the light or simply provide room-darkening.
- Blocking the light. If total darkness is what you want, then you need to select a window covering that has “true” blackout materials in the collection. To minimize the light gap, consider mounting your blinds or shades on the outside of your window frame. Good options from Hunter Douglas include Duette® Honeycomb Shades (both horizontal and vertical applications), roller shades, and shutters. For wood and aluminum blinds (such as Modern Precious Metals® Aluminum Blinds), ask for the de-Light™ feature, which eliminates the rout holes.
- Room-darkening. Semi-opaque and opaque materials almost completely block out the light—they do a good job darkening a room, but do not entirely eliminate light. Window coverings that offer room-darkening materials include Pirouette® Window Shadings, Duette® Honeycomb Shades, and Silhouette® Window Shadings. For another room-darkening option, you can add a liner onto products such as Provenance® Woven Woods and designer roller shades.
One of the most overlooked options when selecting window treatments is the operating systems. If your windows are high and hard to reach, consider PowerView® Motorization. If you have children or just don’t like the look of cords, consider LiteRise®. We have a wide variety of operating choices for you to select from.
