“The Art of Layering at the Window”
With this guide, you can follow a step-by-step process that will help eliminate the guesswork to finding a great fabric combo. You can’t go wrong! First choose the blind, shade, or shutter that will go directly against the window—your base layer. You can choose from options such as Designer Banded Shades, Duette® Honeycomb Shades, Provenance® Woven Wood Shades, and more. This layer is for light control and energy efficiency at the window, and you can choose solid or textured, neutral or colored materials. Your next layer is where you choose fabrics that add drama, depth, and style. You can select from the core Design Studio line or from the featured artist collection (right now highlighting selections from textile designer Rebecca Atwood), finding selections that will coordinate or complement what you already chose. If you want, you can add side panels or drapery as well. Remember: Side panels frame the window to add dimension and beauty. Drapery can fully cover the window to provide additional privacy and light control.
Folio Fabrics
You can find suggestions for coordinating with tone-on-tone looks for neutrals, colors, or textures, as well as suggestions for contrasts with color or patterns, to bring out an accent color in the room, to highlight a color from a patterned undertreatment, or to add a color that you just love. Plus, they offer “folios” of fabrics that will work well together. Choose from folios titled “all about white,” “gray infinity,” “harvest comfort,” or “seaside retreat,” or look to the Featured Artist series, which is a unique offering of its own. Finally, for additional help, you can find recommended pairings in the Design Studio—you’ll get some great ideas of things that will match well together.
