Make Your Home Your Haven
Everyday life can feel pretty chaotic, and getting a breather is important to holding it all together. And having that relaxation shouldn’t have to be difficult. In fact, it can often just boil down to simple decoration choices. For example:
- Start neutral. As anyone can guess, bright colors up the vibe in a room, while a neutral palette with milder colors can create a greater sense of ease. If you’re afraid that neutrals are boring, don’t worry—you can add pops of color to ad visual interest, and texture in things like area rugs, comfy blankets, throw pillows, and artwork can spice things up a bit too.
- Get rid of the clutter. Even if you don’t realize it’s happening, any form of clutter could be gnawing at your subconscious, making it harder for you to relax. Ditch the clutter to bring about a more calming atmosphere. You can use containers like baskets, decorative boxes, or soft space cubes to store mail or paperwork. And let go of the décor that doesn’t matter. Pare it down to only what you really love—a busy room can lead to anxiety and stress.
- Create a relaxing-activity area. Do you find peace in reading, listening to music, or doing jigsaw or crossword puzzles? Then highlight that peace by creating an area that’s designated for that activity only. In this one area, after time, you might find that you’ve trained your brain to start to immediately relax as soon as you sit down.
