- Sheer – The material allows light into the room while providing a view of the outside. It also reduces glare but provides no privacy. These treatments would be great in a living or dining room. Window treatments that come in sheer fabrics include Hunter Douglas Silhouette® Window Shadings and Hunter Douglas Luminette® Privacy Sheers.
- Semi-Sheer – The material diffuses light with moderate privacy. It offers a soft view. These treatments would be great in a kitchen or family room. Window treatments that come in semi-sheer fabrics include Hunter Douglas Designer Roman Shades and Hunter Douglas Designer Roller Shades.
- Semi-Opaque – The material filters more light, but blocks the view. Window treatments with these fabrics will provide more privacy; however, you will still be able to see shadows. Window treatments with these fabrics are great for bathrooms and bedrooms. Choices include Hunter Douglas Duette® Honeycomb Shades and Pirouette® Window Shadings.
- Opaque/Room Darkening – These materials block nearly all light and provide a greater degree of light control and privacy. Window treatments in these fabrics are great for bedrooms and children’s rooms. Choices include Hunter Douglas Custom Shutters and Hunter Douglas Pirouette® Window Shadings.
Remember, room darkening is not the same as blackout, which block 99% of all light. Blackout shades are great for bedrooms, children’s rooms, and media rooms. Choices include Duette® Honeycomb Shades and Hunter Douglas Provenance® Woven Woods with liner.
