This Year’s Color
The Pantone Color Institute is a unit within Pantone that gauges color trends, selects the Color of the Year, and advises businesses on product and visual identity colors. Part of how they reach a decision on the Color of the Year is to weigh current climate, past behaviors, and past trends to reach a balance on what they expect the upcoming year to need. This year, they landed on Viva Magenta, which “vibrates with vim and vigor.” It’s a “nuanced crimson tone” that balances warm and cool. And Pantone notes that it’s “an unconventional shade for an unconventional time.” Their statement adds that it is “an animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint; an electrifying, boundaryless shade.”

Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, notes that we are in an age of technology, so “we look to draw inspiration from nature.” Viva Magenta, she says, is “rooted in the primordial” and “reconnects us to original matter…It galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.” If this resonates with you, you might want to add this bright hue to your home or everyday life.
